Hair 08 Look Book

At Murdock we know individual style is critical. In this spirit, our barbers have created a look book to help you decide the individual style that best suits you. This style compendium will be continually updated over the coming months, so if you need any advice on a particular style just email barbers@murdocklondon.com, or be sure you discuss your desired look with one of our barbers on your visit to the store and they will be happy to give you some personal guidance.

The Short Back & Sides

‘The Short Back and Sides’ is the Cary Grant of cuts, for gentlemen who want an unflappable, polished look – whether at the dinner party or after party – with an easily maintained versatility, this is the style for you. Toying with a little textured length on top, you can have it three ways: straight-up, side-parted or with a slight fringe. Use ‘Kevin Murphy Easy Rider’ for a sleek look or ‘Sticky Business’ for a more textured feel.

The Classic

Reminiscent of Robert Redford in The Great Gatsby or Edward VII, ‘The Classic’ is an individual style very much in vogue – a pensive, devilishly immaculate cut. In creating this look we keep the edges short and trim but tease out a little remaining length to be lightly groomed into place with a side fringe, a sleek brush-back or neat side-parting. Use ‘Kevin Murphy Easy Rider’ on damp hair. or ‘DR Harris' Crystal Hair Cream’.

The Classic
The Eton Crop

Think of Marlon Brando in Julius Caesar, David Bailey in his snappy prime, or Ashton Kutcher propping up Demi Moore, ‘The Eton Crop’ accentuates your hair’s natural texture, coaxing out a casual, endearing boyishness. Keep the length on top and at the front but go daringly short on the back and sides for this always askance, always evolving cut. Use ‘Kevin Murphy Easy Rider’ on damp hair.

The Wild One

Raffish and retro, ‘The Wild One’ is both a fashion classic and an invigorated contemporary cut. The versatility of the style is shown in its devotees, ranging from Alex Turner to Alex Del Piero, from Jude Law to Sean Penn – all have been seduced by its pliable, roguish charms. Keep the length that's been your labour of love but inject a subtle vintage appeal with a graduated short back and sides. A sexier style that will make you look like you’ve just dashed to the 60s and back via a wind-swept beachfront. Use ‘Kevin Murphy Easy Rider’ on damp or dry hair.

The Quiff

For classic rockabilly appeal ‘The Quiff’ remains an intriguingly popular style. Think of James Dean squinting through his angst or Richard Hawley bemoaning lost love in his swooning baritone – both have the kind of profile to make Elvis whoop. This is an excellent, beguiling look to interpret for today whilst connecting with the glimmering panache of the 50s. It is worn short to long, with square sides on shorter styles, or graduated for more texture and volume. Use a little ‘Kevin Murphy Sticky Business’ for hold on dry hair, or ‘Easy Rider’ combed through the sides whilst damp to slick them.
