Winter Skin Survival
The winter with rain, frost & hopefully some snow brings new challenges to your daily regime because of the harsh elements and freezing temperatures tend to have a drying effect on skin and hair.  We often take our skin-care routine for granted, believing that the products we've used all year long will carry us through the change of seasons. Begrudgingly, we accept flaky, itchy skin as an unavoidable part of colder, drier weather, but that doesn't have to be the case you don’t have to settle for red or raw skin there is a few extra precautions to keep your skin glowing.

1.    Shaving
In winter it’s particularly important to prepare the skin be fore the shave, and moisturise with a shaving balm afterwards.  If you take care you won't end up 10 minutes having left the house for work with an ugly & sore shaving rash.nnWe recommend a balm such as DR Harris Arlington shaving balm or Acqua Di Parma Colonia Intensa After shave Balm.

2.    Moisturise to the Max

In the winter it is drier both indoors and outdoors and you may also want to switch to heavier emollients and creams during this season. Switching between formulations, or from lighter to heavier creams, can rejuvenate your whole skin-care process.

Shower or bathe in lukewarm, not hot water, as it removes natural oil from the skin. Immediately afterwards moisturise the skin with a body moisturiser on your skin whilst your skin is still wet. It helps trap moisture in your upper skin layers. When you dry off, gently pat the skin dry, rather than rub to avoid irritation and redness.   After you wash your hands, use a hand cream to seal in moisture. We recommend moisturisers such as Malin + Goetz or Hierbas de Ibiza.

3.    Wind & Sun Protection

If you’re not heading to the slopes, this perhaps doesn’t apply in London, but wind or the sun reflecting off the snow and ice can be very damaging to the skin. Wind sucks up the moisture in the air and, during a cold day, we often forget to pay attention to harsh sunlight glare. Although there's not much we can do about either we can protect ourselves and ensure the products we use contain a sunscreen.  Brave Soldier is a brand that equips you to battle the elements & is one of the best products we can recommend.   Don't forget to treat your lips and always carry a lipbalm, at Murdock we recommend DR Harris or Brave Soldier For lip balms.
