The Mod Haircut
The Mod has always been here and while it's popularity undulates from year to year, its presence in popular culture is cemented. From Paul Weller to Liam Gallagher and the Oasis guys (did someone say Oasis reunion tour?), through to more modern heroes like Paul Mescal & Jacob Elordi, this cut is always either on-trend or making a full on come-back.
With the help of Ryan Chessman, senior barber and winner of the 2024 Hair Awards 'Best Men's Stylist' (he's the architect of the examples seen in the image above), we'll talk you through your journey to a Mod Haircut.
How to Cut it
Luckily this is a fairly low maintenance cut which requires minimal work once trimmed. "I'll always look to keep length around the back and sides, particularly around the temples, this is key to creating the signature profile of the mod cut." Says Ryan. "The top should be shorter as it's the focal point of the haircut. Cutting into this area and creating texture makes the haircut sit perfectly in conjunction with the longer extremities of the trim". Ryan notes this is a haircut that will benefit from a touch up every 6-8 weeks.
How to Style it
Senior barber Ryan continues: "For naturally wavy, textured hair apply textured hair cream to damp hair allowing it to dry naturally, in some cases from here you should be good to go. If your hair is finer swap the cream with sea salt volume mousse then define & separate the hair with matt mud for ultimate thickness and texture."
